UMD Fresh Foundations
2020 has been a tough year for all of us. Since isolation and distance learning began back in March of 2020, students and faculty members have had to quickly adapt to the current situation of Covid-19 and do things we never expected to do in our time here. Our mental and physical well-being has taken a huge toll in the last 9 months of not being able to see loved ones, or keep up with school work and expenses. No one expected the extremity of this pandemic in the beginning of 2020 but now it seems everyday's an uphill battle to keep our heads afloat.
The theme of this year's Fresh Foundation is Isolation: I’m Going Insane. We all feel that it is hard to express ourselves as we know we’re all feeling different emotions during this pandemic. Art has allowed us to take the battles of Covid-19 onto a more familiar ground; a canvas. All works have been created by students enrolled in the foundation courses: 2D Design, 2D Digital Design, Drawing 1, and 3D Design - many of them are experiencing college courses for the first time this semester. These bodies of work have allowed students to individually tell their own stories and how they felt through it all.
